The reason why you might not be getting pregnant can vary from couple to couple and we will discuss some of the common causes below.

Female Factors

40% of infertility cases can be attributed to female factors. These factors include:

  • Ovulation problems
  • Tubal problems
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome
  • Endometriosis
  • Premature ovarian insufficiency
  • Lifestyle factors e.g. smoking

The diagnosis of these conditions is usually made through blood tests and ultrasound scans and will influence the type of treatment selected for each women.

Male Factor

40% of infertility case are attributed to male factors.

  • Reduced sperm parameters
  • Ejaculation problems
  • Absent sperm in the ejaculate
  • Previous medical conditions e.g. diabetes
  • Lifestyle factors e.g. smoking

The diagnosis of these conditions will depend on medical history, semen analysis and more advanced tests such as the analysis of the sperm DNA Fragmentation. Based on these tests the treatment will be individualised accordingly.

Unexplained Factors

Unfortunately the remaining cases are unexplained, with no evident cause as to why a couple are unable to conceive naturally.

In this instances however, the results of the investigations will help us decide which treatment would be best suitable.
